Immunogen:
Mouse thymus or spleen.
Specificity:
Detects mouse CD8a the alpha chain of the CD8 antigen. CD8 is expressed on T-cells and exists either a homodimer composed of two alpha chains or a heterodimer composed of one alpha and one beta chain. CD8 functions as a co-receptor with the T-cell receptor and mediates efficient cell to cell interactions within the immune system. The CD8 alpha chain specifically binds to class I MHC molecules. The 53-6. 7 antibody has been reported to block antigen presentation via MHC class I and inhibit T cell responses to IL-2. This antibody has also been used for depletion of CD8a+ cells. Recommended Negative Controls: RAT IgG2a NEGATIVE CONTROL:RPE
Function:
Identifies cytotoxic/suppressor T-cells that interact with MHC class I bearing targets. CD8 is thought to play a role in the process of T-cell mediated killing. CD8 alpha chains binds to class I MHC molecules alpha-3 domains. Subunit structureIn general heterodimer of an alpha and a beta chain linked by two disulfide bonds. Can also form homodimers. Subcellular locationMembrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. Sequence similaritiesContains 1 Ig-like V-type (immunoglobulin-like) domain.
