The encoded proteinspecifically plays a role in bone growth an differentiation.Mutations in this gene are the cause of brachydactyly type A1 whichis characterized by shortening or malformation of the phalanges.Mutations in this gene are also the cause of acrocapitofemoraldysplasia.
