This gene encodes a member of the lysyl oxidase gene
family. The prototypic member of the family is essential to the
biogenesis of connective tissue, encoding an extracellular
copper-dependent amine oxidase that catalyses the first step in the
formation of crosslinks in collagens and elastin. A highly
conserved amino acid sequence at the C-terminus end appears to be
sufficient for amine oxidase activity, suggesting that each family
member may retain this function. The N-terminus is poorly conserved
and may impart additional roles in developmental regulation,
senescence, tumor suppression, cell growth control, and chemotaxis
to each member of the family.

Overlay histogram showing A549 cells stained with AP17245b(green line). The cells were fixed with 2% paraformaldehyde (10 min) and then permeabilized with 90% methanol for 10 min. The cells were then icubated in 2% bovine serum albumin to block non-specific protein-protein interactions followed by the antibody (AP17245b, 1:25 dilution) for 60 min at 37ºC. The secondary antibody used was Goat-Anti-Rabbit IgG, DyLight® 488 Conjugated Highly Cross-Adsorbed(1583138) at 1/200 dilution for 40 min at 37ºC. Isotype control antibody (blue line) was rabbit IgG1 (1μg/1x10^6 cells) used under the same conditions. Acquisition of >10, 000 events was performed.
