Protein Function	Endopeptidase that degrades various components of the extracellular matrix, such as collagen type III and fibronectin. Activates progelatinase A. Involved in the matrix remodeling of blood vessels. Isoform short cleaves fibronectin and also collagen type III, but at lower rate. It has no effect on type I, II, IV and V collagen. However, upon interaction with CSPG4, it may be involved in degradation and invasion of type I collagen by melanoma cells.
Subcellular Localization	Isoform Long: Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein; Extracellular side. Localized at the cell surface of melanoma cells.
Description	The MMP-16 Cell-Based ELISA Kit is a convenient, lysate-free, high throughput and sensitive assay kit that can monitor MMP-16 protein expression profile in cells. The kit can be used for measuring the relative amounts of MMP-16 in cultured cells as well as screening for the effects that various treatments, inhibitors (ie. siRNA or chemicals), or activators have on MMP-16.
Tissue Specificity	Expressed in heart, brain, placenta, ovary and small intestine. Isoform Short is found in the ovary.
