Protein Function	Inhibits translation initiation and cap-dependent translation. May excert its function by hindering the interaction between EIF4A1 and EIF4G. Inhibits the helicase activity of EIF4A. Modulates the activation of JUN kinase. Down-regulates the expression of MAP4K1, thus inhibiting events important in driving invasion, namely, MAPK85 activation and consequent JUN-dependent transcription. May play a role in apoptosis. Tumor suppressor. Inhibits tumor promoter-induced neoplastic transformation. Binds RNA (By similarity).
Subcellular Localization	Nucleus. Cytoplasm. Shuttles between the nucleus and cytoplasm (By similarity). Predominantly nuclear under normal growth conditions, and when phosphorylated at Ser-457 (PubMed:16357133).
Description	The PDCD4 Cell-Based ELISA Kit is a convenient, lysate-free, high throughput and sensitive assay kit that can monitor PDCD4 protein expression profile in cells. The kit can be used for measuring the relative amounts of PDCD4 in cultured cells as well as screening for the effects that various treatments, inhibitors (ie. siRNA or chemicals), or activators have on PDCD4.
Tissue Specificity	Up-regulated in proliferative cells. Highly expressed in epithelial cells of the mammary gland. Reduced expression in lung cancer and colon carcinoma.
