Immunohistochemistry on cultured cells: strongly positive on ethanol fixed epithelial cells. Immunohistochemistry on frozen ethanol fixed section. Immunohistochemistry on paraffin section: very strong positive reaction with ethanol fixed tissues. On formalin postfixed tissues, a protease pretreatment is recommended. MAb crossreacts with mucin of different animal species (monkey, cat and hedge dog) and after periodate pretreatment of deparaffinized sections (mouse, cow, rabbit and pig). Immunoblottting: strongly positive without beta-mercaptoethanol pretreatment of mucin solution.

58M1 reacts with peptide core of gastric mucin (MUC5AC). Source: A BALB/c mouse was immunized with mucin isolated from an ovarian cyst fluid (pure endocervical type according to the Fenoglio's classification). Splenocytes were fused with mouse myeloma SP2/0 cells.
