Application Notes	OX8-2a is useful for the flow cytometric analysis of rat lymphocytes, especially in multicolor stainings. OX8-2a is also suitable for immunohistochemistry, both on fresh frozen tissue and formalin-fixed/paraffin-embedded tissue. Citric acid pretreatment is recommended for formalin-fixed/paraffin-embedded tissue sections.
Description	CD8 (cluster of differentiation 8) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that serves as a co-receptor for the T cell receptor (TCR). Like the TCR, CD8 binds to a Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) molecule, but is specific for the Class I MHC protein. There are two isoforms of the protein, alpha and beta, each encoded by a different gene. CD8 forms a dimer, consisting of a pair of CD8 chains. The most common form of CD8 is composed of a CD8-alpha and CD8-beta chain.
Formulation	OX8-2a can be obtained purified, in amounts of 100 ug, 0.05% Sodium Azide is added as a preservative.
Specificity	The antibody binds to a rat strain-independent epitope of the alpha chain of CD8, present on the CD8-positive subsets of T cells and NK cells.
