Human Amyloid-Beta (1-40)

Amyloid-beta (Abeta) is generated by sequential cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) by beta and gamma secretases. Beta-secretase cleaves an extracellular fragment of APP and releases a soluble fragment, whereas gamma secretase cleaves within the transmembrane domain and generates amyloid-beta (Abeta) isoforms of 36-43 amino acid residues in length. The dominant isoforms of Amyloid-Beta are Abeta40 and Abeta42. Abeta40 is the most common amyloid-Beta (Abeta) isoform, whereas Abeta42 is the more fibrillogenic and the predominant Abeta peptide associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Antibodies employed in this amyloid-beta ELISA kit are selective to the Abeta42 isoform of amyloid-beta, with insignificant cross-reactivity to the Abeta40 isoform.
