Immunogen:	Synthetic peptide corresponding to a sequence within the amino terminus of the SARS Membrane protein.
Specificity Note:	This product is specific for the SARS (Severe acute respiratory syndrome) Membrane glycoprotein also known as M protein. This protein is predicted to contain a triple-spanning transmembrane region a small external N-terminal domain and a longer C-terminal region in the interior. SARS M Protein is the major component of the virion envelope and has an important structural role. The protein is also believed to interact with the Spike and Nucleocapsid proteins and also to participate in virion assembly.
Antiserum Preparation:	Antisera to SARS M protein were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen.

Function:	Component of the viral envelope that plays a central role in virus morphogenesis and assembly via its interactions with other viral proteins (By similarity).
Subunit:	Homomultimer. Interacts with envelope E protein in the budding compartment of the host cell which is located between endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi complex. Forms a complex with HE and S proteins. Interacts with nucleocapsid N protein. This interaction probably participates in RNA packaging into the virus (By similarity). Interacts with the accessory proteins 3a and 7a.
Subcellular Location:	Virion membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein (Potential). Golgi apparatus membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein (Potential). Note=Largely embedded in the lipid bilayer (By similarity).
