Specificity:
FGF BASIC
Immunogen:
Recombinant human FGF-basic
Specificity Note:
This product is specific for human FGF-basic otherwise known as FGF-2 (fibroblast growth factor 2) a member of the heparin-binding growth factor family which exists in both cytosolic and nuclear isoforms ranging in size from 18-24kDa expressed by the majority of cells and tissues. FGF2 is a multi-functional growth factor identified as a potent inducer of angiogenesis an important factor in wound healing tumour vascularisation and cardiovascular disease and is pivotal for the development and maintenance of vascular integrity during embryogenesis. This product may be used in indirect ELISA or as a capture reagent in sandwich ELISA with as a detection reagent.
Immunohistology:
This product requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections. Sodium citrate buffer pH 6. 0 is recommended for this purpose. Histology: Human breast invasive ductal carcinoma
Antiserum Preparation:
Antisera to human FGF basic were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared by affinity chromatography.
Buffer Solution:
Phosphate buffered saline pH7. 4
Preservative Stabilisers:
None present.
Reconstitution: Reconstitute with 0. 1ml distilled water. For long term storage the addition of 0. 09% sodium azide is recommended. NB. For functional studies do not add azide. Suggested

FGF family members bind heparin and possess broad mitogenic and angiogenic activities. This protein has been implicated in diverse biological processes such as limb and nervous system development wound healing and tumor growth. The mRNA for this gene contains multiple polyadenylation sites and is alternatively translated from AUG and non-AUG (CUG) initiation codons resulting in five different isoforms with distinct properties. The CUG-initiated isoforms are localized in the nucleus and are responsible for the intracrine effect whereas the AUG-initiated form is mostly cytosolic and is responsible for the paracrine and autocrine effects of this FGF. 1.
