The apolipoproteins functions as stabilizer of the intact lipoprotein particles. Specifically Apo CIII is a very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) protein (1). Apo CIII is involved inhibition of lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase. It is thought to delay catabolism of triglyceride-rich particles. A defect in Apo CIII has been linked to cause of hyperalphalipoproteinemia (HLAP) which causes increase levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL) (2). 1. Hirano T et al; Kidney International 63:21712.
