Interleukin 6

Interleukin 6 (IL6) fungiert als ein Polypeptid – Mediator, welcher die angeborene und die adaptive Immunantwort reguliert. Dieser immunologische Schalter wird durch die differentielle Kontrolle der Leukozytenrekrutierung, Aktivierung und Apoptose  umgeschaltet [1]. Darüber hinaus wurde gezeigt, dass die deregulierte Produktion von IL-6 an einer Vielzahl von chronischen entzündlichen Erkrankungen beteiligt ist [2]. Die cDNA für Interleukin (IL6) codiert für ein Polypeptid aus 212 Aminosäuren. Über die posttranslationale Modifikation wird dann ein reifes Protein aus 185 Aminosäuren hergestellt. Weitere posttranslationale Modifikationen bestehen aus Glycosylierungen und Phosphorylierungen. Dies führt zu unterschiedlichen Molekulargewichten zwischen 21,5 kDa  und 18 kDa. Anwendungen

Da Interleukin 6 eine wichtige Rolle während der Immunantwort einnimmt, kann er als Marker für Entzündungsprozesse verwendet werden. Interleukin 6 kann sowohl in menschlichem Serum, Plasma, gepufferten Lösungen, Überständen oder in Geweben nachgewiesen werden. Für solche Nachweise stehen vielseitige (immunologische) Methoden zur Verfügung. Dazu gehören Methoden wie z.B. ELISA, CLIA, Immunhistochemie (IHC), Western Blot und viele mehr.
