L1 is a major capsid protein of type 18 human papilloma virus. Infection with specific types of HPV has been associated with an increased risk of developing cervical neoplasia. HPV types 6 and 11 have been associated with relatively benign diseases such as genital warts but types 16 and 18 are strongly associated with cervical, vaginal, and vulvar malignancies.

Specificity:
Immunoreactivity is confirmed by reaction in quantitative immunoblot with monoclonal antibody specific to HPV L1. Does not contain a fusion partner.

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4°C. For long-term storage, aliquot and store at 4°C. Do not freeze. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
