E-Cadherin, a type I transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by the CDH1 gene, is a pivotal molecule involved in cell-cell adhesion and tissue organization. Functioning primarily in epithelial tissues, E-Cadherin mediates calcium-dependent homophilic interactions between adjacent cells, contributing to the formation and maintenance of adherens junctions.
