Bio Background	The protein encoded by this gene is a component ofdesmosomes and of the epidermal cornified envelope inkeratinocytes. The N-terminal domain of this protein interacts withthe plasma membrane and its C-terminus interacts with intermediatefilaments. Through its rod domain, this protein forms complexeswith envoplakin. This protein may serve as a link between thecornified envelope and desmosomes as well as intermediatefilaments. AKT1/PKB, a protein kinase mediating a variety of cellgrowth and survival signaling processes, is reported to interactwith this protein, suggesting a possible role for this protein as alocalization signal in AKT1-mediated signaling.
