Quality Tested by Leinco Flow Cytometry: It is recommended to use the indirect method for signal enhancement when enumerating cells expressing IL-16. A suggested method would be to stain cells expressing IL-16 with 0.25 µg per 10⁶ cells in a total staining volume of 100 µl followed by an appropriate secondary antibody.
Western Blotting: To detect Human IL-16 this polyclonal antibody can be used at a concentration of 1 µg/ml. A suitable Western blotting control is PN:T261.

Interleukin 16 (lymphocyte chemoattractant factor), also known as IL16, is a pleiotropic cytokine that functions as a chemoattractant, a modulator of T cell activation, and an inhibitor of HIV replication. The signaling process of this cytokine is mediated by CD4. IL-16 is released by a variety of cells (including lymphocytes and some epithelial cells) that has been characterized as a chemoattractant for certain immune cells expressing the cell surface molecule CD4. IL-16 has a critical role in protecting antigen presenting cells (APC) against HIV-1 infection and is used in the treatment of HIV disease.1

Immunohistochemistry on Frozen Sections: This antibody should give satisfactory staining results when used on frozen sections at a concentration of 5-15 µg/ml.

This antigen affinity purified polyclonal antibody has been 0.2 µm filtered and lyophilized from modified Dulbecco’s phosphate buffered saline (1X PBS) pH 7.2 – 7.4 containing 5.0% w/v trehalose with no calcium, magnesium, or preservatives present.
