Oncostatin M (OSM) is a pleitropic cytokine produced by activated T lymphocytes and monocytes that is structurally and functionally related to the subfamily of cytokines known as the IL-6-type cytokine family.1 OSM either inhibits or enhances the growth of cells depending on cell type. It inhibits proliferation of skeletal muscle cells by blocking cell cycle progression from G(1) to S phase.2 OSM is also a key mediator for proliferation and anti-apoptosis of hepatocytes which suggests that OSM gene therapy is useful, as preventive and curative means, for the treatment of patients with liver damage.3

Neutralization: This antibody is useful for neutralization of Human OSM bioactivity. The antibody dose required to neutralize 50% (ND₅₀) of the biological activity of Human OSM (at 2.0 ng/ml) is 0.5 - 2.0 µg/ml.

Mouse Anti-Human Oncostatin M (OSM) (Clone 17001) recognizes an epitope on Human OSM. This monoclonal antibody was purified using multi-step affinity chromatography methods such as Protein A or G depending on the species and isotype.

This monoclonal antibody has been 0.2 µm filtered and lyophilized from modified Dulbecco's phosphate buffered saline (1X PBS) pH 7.2 - 7.3 containing 5.0% w/v trehalose with no calcium, magnesium or preservatives present.
