Background	5'-nucleotidase (5'-NT), also known as ecto-5'-nucleotidase or CD73 is a plasma membrane protein expressed abundantly on endothelial cells and on a subset of leukocytes. It catalyzes the conversion of extracellular nucleotides to membrane-permeable nucleosides used as a determinant of lymphocyte differentiation. Defects in CD73 can lead to the calcification of joints and arteries.
