Hepatic dysfunction occurs commonly in children with sickle cell disease (SCD). Serum cholylglycine (CG) has been found to be a very sensitive indicator of cholestasis. serum cholylglycine concentrations are usually abnormal in most hepatobiliary diseases, such as viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, cirrhosis, and pediatric liver diseases. The higher level of cholyglycine in ICP pregnant women would affect the synthesis of erythropoietin in newborn fetus, and the lower level of erythropoietin may be a factor of fetal hypoxia.
