TIMP1, also known as metalloproteinase inhibitor 1, is a member of the TIMP family. Tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP) family are natural inhibitors of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), the zinc enzymes involved in extracellular matrix maintenance and remodeling. In addition to its inhibitory role against most of the known MMPs, the encoded protein is able to promote cell proliferation in a wide range of cell types, and may also have an anti-apoptotic function. It has been identified as a multifunctional molecule with divergent functions.

Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
