Differences in calculated versus apparent molecular weight may be due to post-translational modifications or protein hydrophobicity. PNMA1 encodes a protein that is highly restricted to the brain and testis. Anti-PNMA1 reacts mainly with subnuclear elements (including the nucleoli) and to a lesser degree the cytoplasm.
Subcellular Location:	Nucleus nucleolus. Note=In tumor cells it is cytoplasmic.
Tissue Specificity:	Testis and brain specific. In some patients suffering from cancers it is also specifically expressed by the paraneoplastic tumor cells.
Miscellaneous:	Antibodies against PNMA1 are present in sera from patients suffering of paraneoplastic neurological disorders.
