Cathepsin D

A synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the N-terminus of human Cathepsin D was used as an immunogen. The antibody recognizes isoforms at 43 kDa and 15 kDa (light chain).

WB: 1:1000 - 2000IHC: 1:500ICC: 1:100 - 250. Cathepsin D is a ubiquitously expressed lysosomal protease that is involved in proteolytic degradation cell invasion and apoptosis (1). It is suspected to play important roles in protein catabolism antigen processing degenerative diseases and breast cancer progression. Determination of the crystal structure provides a structural explanation for how the phosphotransferase can recognize apparently distant sites on the protein surface (2). Cathepsin D is induced by estrogens in mammary cancer cells where its concentration is correlated with a higher risk of metastasis (3). It is possibly involved in Alzheimer\' s disease-related neurodegeneration through cleavage of amyloid precursor protein into amyloidogenic components (4). The Cathepsin D molecule contains 339 amino acid residues in two polypeptide chains: a 97-residue light chain and a 242-residue heavy chain (5). 1. Steinfeld R et al.
