Bioactivity
Alexidine dihydrochloride is a potent and selective PTPMT1 (Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Localized to the Mitochondrion 1) inhibitor (IC50 = 1.08 uM in vitro). It binds to lipopolysaccharide and lipoteichoic acid and inhibits fungal phospholipase B (IC50 ca. 250 nM). Alexidine increases insulin secretion by isolated rat pancreatic islets. Alexidine induces apoptosis in cancer cell lines (ED50 = 1.8-2.6 uM).
