Target Description
Voltage-gated potassium channel subunit beta-2 or Kvß2 is encoded by the gene KCNAB2. Kvß2 is a member of the potassium channel, voltage-gated, shaker-related subfamily. Kvβ2 is a cytoplasmic subunit that modulates the characteristics of the membrane spanning, channel-forming alpha-subunits. Beta subunits can promote the closure of channels or enhance channel activity depending on other channel proteins. Kvβ2 is expressed in brain, in thecerebellum and in the juxtaparanodal region of nodes of Ranvier. Kvβ2 expression is also detected in lung, heart and kidney. Diseases associated with KCNAB2 include Chromosome 1P36 Deletion Syndrome and Juvenile Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis 16,
