Product description
NF-kappa-B (nuclear factor kappa B subunit 1) is a widespread pleiotropic transcription factor, activated by intracellular and extracellular stimuli, such as cytokines, oxidative free radicals, ultraviolet radiation, and bacterial or viral products. The NF-kappa-B gene encodes a 105kd protein (p105), which can be co-translationally processed by the 26s proteasome to produce a 50kd protein (p50). The p105 protein is a specific transcription inhibitor of the Rel protein, and the p50 protein is the DNA binding subunit of the NF-kappa-B (NFKB1) protein complex. The two exist independently and play different roles. The activated NF-kappa-B is transported to the nucleus to stimulate the expression of genes involved in a variety of biological functions.
