It represents subunit Med30 of the Mediator complex and is metazoan-specific with no homologues in yeasts. It is a coactivator involved in the transcription regulation of nearly all RNA polymerase II-dependent genes. Mediator functions as a bridge to convey information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery.
