Product description	ALDH5A1 catalyzes one step in the degradation of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA, 4-aminobutyrate; gamma-aminobutyrate). GABA, a derivative of the excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate, is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Following release and interaction with postsynaptic receptors, GABA is resorbed into the presynaptic neurons and is either reused or metabolized.
