Bio Background	The muscarinic cholinergic receptors belong to a largerfamily of G protein-coupled receptors. The functional diversity ofthese receptors is defined by the binding of acetylcholine to thesereceptors and includes cellular responses such as adenylate cyclaseinhibition, phosphoinositide degeneration, and potassium channelmediation. Muscarinic receptors influence many effects ofacetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous system. Themuscarinic cholinergic receptor 2 is involved in mediation ofbradycardia and a decrease in cardiac contractility. Multiplealternatively spliced transcript variants have been described forthis gene.
