Bio Background	The protein encoded by this gene is a calcium-activatednonselective ion channel that mediates transport of monovalentcations across membranes, thereby depolarizing the membrane. Theactivity of the encoded protein increases with increasingintracellular calcium concentration, but this channel does nottransport calcium. Two transcript variants encoding differentisoforms have been found for this gene.
