Bio Background	Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA; MIM 11489) is one of themost widely used tumor markers in serum immunoassay determinationsof carcinoma. An apparent lack of absolute cancer specificity forCEA probably results in part from the presence in normal andneoplastic tissues of antigens that share antigenic determinantswith the 18-kD form of CEA (Barnett et al., 1988 [PubMed322478]).
