Bio Background	The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the SMADfamily of proteins, which are related to Drosophila 'mothersagainst decapentaplegic' (Mad) and C. elegans Sma. SMAD proteinsare signal transducers and transcriptional modulators that mediatemultiple signaling pathways. This protein functions in the negativeregulation of BMP and TGF-beta/activin-signalling. Multipletranscript variants encoding different isoforms have been found forthis gene.
