Background |
APTES is soluble in toluene, acetone, ethanol at 100 mg/mL, and chloroform . Stability in solvents with hydroxyl groups (alcohols, water) is very poor, and only limited in acetone. Incompatible with acids and strong oxidizing agents, and may decompose on exposure to moisture. APTES is a toxic compound with an MSDS health hazard score of 3, affecting the nervous system, liver, and kidneys. APTES fumes are destructive to the mucous membranes and the upper respiratory tract, and should be used in a fume hood with gloves. If a fume hood is not available, a face shield and full face respirator must be implemented. |
