Specificity:
IL-15
Immunogen:
Recombinant human IL-15
Specificity Note:
This product is specific for human IL-15 (Interleukin-15) a 14kDa immunomodulatory glycoprotein expressed by multiple tissues and cell types which primarily stimulates T lymphocytes but is also critical for the development and activation of natural killer cells (NK). IL-15 shares functional properties with IL-2 and binds with high affinity to the IL-15 receptor (IL-15R) consisting of the IL-15R alpha chain and also the IL-2Rbeta and common gamma chains used by the IL-2 receptor. Affects of IL-15 have been linked with cells and tissues unrelated to the immune system and increased expression of IL-15 has been demonstrated in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) ulcerative colitis (UC) Chron\' s disease (CD) and lymphoid malignancies and also conditions affiliated with HIV and HTLV-1 infection. This product will neutralise IL-15 activity in bioassay systems.
Antiserum Preparation:
Antisera to human IL-15 were raised by repeated immunisation of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared by antigen affinity chromatography.
Buffer Solution:
Phosphate buffered saline pH7. 4
Preservative Stabilisers:
None present
Reconstitution: Reconstitute with 0. 1 ml distilled water For long term storage the addition of 0. 09% Sodium Azide is recommended. Product
Note:
For functional studies do not use Azide. Suggested

This cytokine and interleukine 2 share many biological activities. They are found to bind common hematopoietin receptor subunits and may compete for the same receptor and thus negatively regulate each other\' s activity. The number of CD8+ memory cells is shown to be controlled by a balance between this cytokine and IL2. This cytokine induces the activation of JAK kinases as well as the phosphorylation and activation of transcription activators STAT3 STAT5 and STAT6. Studies of the mouse counterpart suggested that this cytokine may increase the expression of apoptosis inhibitor BCL2L1/BCL-x(L) possibly through the transcription activation activity of STAT6 and thus prevent apoptosis. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene encoding the same protein have been reported.
