Description
Alpha-2-Antiplasmin (A2AP/SERPINF2) is a member of the serpin family of serine protease inhibitors and is a major inhibitor of Plasmin. Consequently, A2AP has a major role in regulating the Coagulation Cascade. Mutations in A2AP result in Alpha-2-Antiplasmin Deficiency, a rare coagulation disorder characterized by unrestrained fibrinolytic activity and severe hemorrhagic diathesis. Individuals with this condition may receive therapeutic A2AP prior to surgery to prevent postoperative hemorrhaging.
