Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) is similar to Insulin (INS) in function and structure and is a member of a family of proteins involved in mediating growth and development. IGF-1 is processed from a precursor, bound by a specific receptor, and secreted. Chicken Insulin-like Growth Factor-I (Chicken IGF-1) is a polypeptide comprising 70 amino acids, eight of which differ from the amino acid sequence of human IGF-1. Chicken IGF-1 has been shown to stimulate growth in many cell types, including rat L6 myoblasts and chicken embryo fibroblasts, hepatocytes, adipocytes and myoblasts.
