Short Description	ELISA kit designed to detect and measure porcine type I collagen proteins in culture media and tissue samples (collagen solubilization is required for use of cultured cell layers and tissue samples with this kit. Contact Chondrex, Inc. for more information). The capture and detection antibodies used in this kit are specific to the native conformation of type I collagen, therefore this kit has reduced reactivity to denatured type I collagen. However, this kit should not be used with samples containing other species of type I collagen besides porcine type I collagen (see protocol for more information).
Background	Type I collagen is one of several interstitial fibrillar collagens consisting of two identical 1(I) chains and one 2(I) chain. It is the most abundant collagen type and is found in most connective tissues such as skin, bone, tendon, ligament, and heart. Many tissues contain heterotypic fi brils meaning that two or more distinct collagen types coexist. For example, most connective tissues (with the exception of bone) contain heterotypic fi brils of type I and III collagen, although type III collagen is minor
