Background	Rantes is a protein also known as CCL5 and is encoded by the CCL5 gene. Rantes is classified as a chemotactic cytokine, and is chemotactic for T cells, eosinophils, basophils, and recruits leukocytes in response to inflammation. Rantes induces proliferation and activation of natural killer cells to form CHAK cells. It is also an HIV-supressive factor.
