Specificity:
IGF-IINCBI
Gene ID:
3481
Specificity:
IGF-II
Immunogen:
Recombinant human IGF-II
Specificity Note:
This product is specific for human IGF-II (Insulin-like Growth Factor II) a 67 amino acid mitogenic polypeptide and member of the Insulin gene family synthesized by various foetal tissues during prenatal development under the influence of placental lactogen. IGF-II is a growth factor which exhibits both paracrine and autocrine properties and signals by binding to the type 1 and type 2 insulin-like growth factor receptors (type 1 IGFR and type 2 IGFR) and also to the insulin receptor (IR). The availability of IGF-II is dependent upon its attachment to and release from various IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) a relationship which has been investigated in breast cancer research (2).
Antiserum Preparation:
Antisera to human IGF-II were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared by affinity chromatography.
Buffer Solution:
Phosphate buffered saline pH7. 4
Preservative Stabilisers:
None present
Reconstitution: Reconstitute with 0. 1ml distilled water. For long term storage the addition of 0. 09% sodium azide is recommended. NB: For functional studies do not add azide. Suggested
Dilution:
Suggested
Dilution:
ELISA - 0. 5ug/mlWestern Blotting - 0. 1 - 0. 2ug/mlFunctional Assays - 3. 1 - 4. 6ug/ml
Function:
The insulin-like growth factors possess growth-promoting activity. In vitro they are potent mitogens for cultured cells. IGF-II is influenced by placental lactogen and may play a role in fetal development.

Similarity:
Belongs to the insulin family. Summary: This protein is a member of the insulin family of polypeptide growth factors that is involved in development and growth. It is an imprinted gene and is expressed only from the paternally inherited allele. It is a candidate gene for eating disorders. There is a read-through INS-IGF2 which aligns to this gene at the 3\' region and to the upstream INS gene at the 5\' region. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. 1. Terasawa. H. et al.
