A synthetic peptide corresponding to residues near the N-terminus of human hnRNP C1/C2 was used as an immunogen.

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) are predominantly nuclear RNA-binding proteins that form complexes with RNA polymerase II transcripts. These proteins function in a variety of cellular activities ranging from transcription and pre-mRNA processing in the nucleus to cytoplasmic mRNA translation and turnover (1). hnRNP C1/C2 is one of the most abundant proteins in the nucleus and shown to have roles in cellular differentiation and proliferation (2). A novel nuclear export is activated by the ROCK signaling pathway to exclude hnRNP C1/C2 from the nucleus by which the compartmentalization of specific hnRNP components is disturbed in apoptotic cells (3). Overexpression of hnRNP C1/C2 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues has been reported in 70 HCC samples suggesting its potential as a protein tumor marker (4). 1. Krecic AM et al.
