Antigen Species:
Human
Target:
Vimentin

Cytoplasmic
Concentration:
1 mg/ml
Purification Note:
Purified from hybridoma culture supernatant by protein A affinity chromatography. Storage
Buffer:
Phosphate buffered saline pH 7. 4 containing 15mM sodium azide
Application Note:
ELISA: Use at an assay dependant dilution. ICC: Use at an assay dependant dilution. WB: Use at an assay dependant dilution. Detects a band of approximately 57 kDa. This antibody recognizes a different epitope on human vimentin than 20-272-192715 making them suitable as an ELISA pair. Not tested in other applications. Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user. Cellular
Localization:
Cytoplasmic Vimentin is the major subunit protein of the intermediate filaments of mesenchumal cells and has a molecular weight of 57 kD. Immunohistochemical staining for Vimentin is thus characteristic of sarcomas (of neural muscle and fibroblast origin) compared to carcinomas which are generally negative. Melanomas lymphomas and vascular tumors may all stain for Vimentin. Vimentin antibodies are thus of value in the differential diagnosis of malignant tumors generally used with a panel of other antibodies including those recognizing cytokeratins lymphoid markers S100 desmin and neurofilaments.
Function:
Vimentins are class-III intermediate filaments found in various non-epithelial cells especially mesenchymal cells.
Subunit:
Homopolymer. Component of a complex composed at least of ACTB AP2M1 AP2A1 AP2A2 MEGF10 and VIM. Interacts with HCV core protein.
Tissue Specificity:
Highly expressed in fibroblasts some expression in T- and B-lymphocytes and little or no expression in Burkitt\' s lymphoma cell lines. Expressed in many hormone-independent mammary carcinoma cell lines.
Ptm:
One of the most prominent phosphoproteins in various cells of mesenchymal origin. Phosphorylation is enhanced during cell division at which time vimentin filaments are significantly reorganized.
Similarity:
Belongs to the intermediate filament family.
