Specificity Note:	This product recognises the Na+/H+ exchanger-3 (NHE3). Na+/H+ exchangers are composed of a hydrophilic carboxy terminal domain and a hydrophobic membrane spanning amino terminal domain. Functional studies indicate that it is the amino terminal domain which is responsible for the transmembrane exchange of sodium and hydrogen ions and that this activity is regulated by the interaction of cytosolic proteins with the hydrophilic carboxy terminal region.

Function:	Involved in pH regulation to eliminate acids generated by active metabolism or to counter adverse environmental conditions. Major proton extruding system driven by the inward sodium ion chemical gradient. Plays an important role in signal transduction.
