Human AP endonuclease-1 (HAP-1) also known as APE APEX or Ref-1 is a nuclear enzyme that repairs apurinic/apyramidinic sites in cellular DNA. Human AP endonucleases-1 cleaves the phosphodiesterase followed by filling-in of the nucleotide gap by DNA polymerase. HAP-1 has been detected in a wide range of human tissues including bladder breast small and large intestine lung ovary pancreas skin spleen testis thymus and thyroid.
