Biological activity
5-PP-InsP5-13 is a cellular mediator that may be a new form of phosphate donor.
In Vitro: Diphospho-myo-inositol phosphates (PP-InsP(y)) are an important class of cellular messengers[1]. The inositol pyrophosphates are thought to arise through the actions of specific, high energy kinases on InsPs and InsP6 precursor. While the pools of pyrophosphates are relatively small compared with the total amount of cellular InsPsAnsP6, they manifest a remarkably rapid metabolic turnover consistent with speculation that they function as intracellular autacoids or, alternatively, as a new form of phosphate donor in an as yet uncharacterized set of phosphotransferase reactions. PP-InsP5 binds the Golgi protein coatomer and modulates its activity on K+-selective channels. Research shows inhibition of clathrin assembly via high affinity binding of PP-InsP5[2].
