Description: Matrine (Vegard; alpha-Matrine; Matridin-15-one; NSC-146051; NSC146051; (+)-Matrine) is a naturally occuring alkaloid found in plants from the Sophora family. It has a variety of pharmacological effects, including anti-cancer effects, and action as a kappa opioid receptor agonist. Matrine shows potent anti-proliferative activity in vitro against various cancer cell lines such as gastric cancer cell line MNK45. This anti-tumor function was achieved through modulation of the NF-kappaB, XIAP, CIAP, and p-ERK proteins expression in cell line MNK45.
