Description: Daptomycin (also known as LY146032; LY-146032; trade name: Cubicin; Cidecin), a natural product isolated from the soil saprotroph Streptomyces roseosporus, is a novel lipopeptide antibiotic with rapid in vitro bactericidal activity against gram-positive organisms. It is an approved medication used in the treatment of systemic and life-threatening infections caused by Gram-positive organisms. Daptomycin is a naturally occurring compound found in the soil saprotroph Streptomyces roseosporus. Its distinct mechanism of action makes it useful in treating infections caused by multiple drug-resistant bacteria. It is marketed in the United States under the trade name Cubicin by Cubist Pharmaceuticals. Daptomycin is a bactericidal antibiotic which works against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive bacteria and it can work both in-vitro and in-vivo. It is a cyclic lipopeptide and many antibiotic resistant strains can be inhibited by daptomycin, such as meticillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-intermediate S. aureus (VISA) and vancomycin-resistant S. aureus (VRSA).
