Human APRIL/TNFSF13 ELISA Kit

TNFSF13 (Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 13), also known as APRIL (a proliferation-inducing ligand) and CD256 (cluster of differentiation 256) is encoded by the TNFSF13 gene. The active form of TNFSF13 is a 17KDa soluble protein which is cleaved from the 32 kDa proprotein by furin in Golgi. TNFSF13 is a member of the TNF ligand superfamily. It interacts with TNFRSF17/BCMA, TNFRSF13B and B-cell activating factor. As with most other TNF family ligands, TNFSF13 exists as a functional homotrimer. In addition, TNFSF13 can bind to another TNF family ligand BAFF. It has been reported that these TNFSF13 -BAFF heterotrimers are elevated in the serum of certain autoimmune patients. TNFSF13 can also bind to heparin sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) to concentrate TNFSF13 on the surface of cells, and promote TNF receptors-mediated effects. TNFSF13 enhances the proliferation and survival of plasma cells and promotes T cell dependent humoral responses. In the patients with autoimmune disorders, however, TNFSF13 can inhibit pathologic humoral responses as well as disease progression. Its expression by CD4+ T cells inhibits the production of Th2 cytokines and allergic inflammation. TNFSF13 levels are elevated in the serum during coronary artery disease. It is also present in elevated amounts in many cancers primarily due to expression by tumor infiltrating neutrophils. Therefore, TNFSF13 is a potential biomarker for certain autoimmune diseases and cancers.
