Human IL-31 ELISA Kit

Interleukin-31 (IL-31) is a cytokine belonging to the IL-6 family. The human IL-31 is synthesized as a 164 amino acid (aa) precursor composed of a 23 aa signal peptide and a 141 aa mature protein. IL-31 is preferentially expressed by Th2 cells. The mature region of human IL-31 shares 24% aa sequence identity with mouse counterpart. IL-31 elicits its effects by interacting with a heterodimeric receptor complex of a gp130 related molecule termed IL-31RA/GPL/GLMR and the oncostatin M receptor (OSM Rbeta). In the complex, IL-31 directly binds to GPL, not OSM Rbeta. Multiple isoforms of IL-31RA have been described, while only the isoform containing the entire cytoplasmic domain is capable of signaling. IL-31-mediated signaling pathways include the Jak/STAT pathway, the PI3 kinase/AKT cascade, and the MAP kinase pathway. The IL-31 receptor complex is constitutively expressed by keratinocytes and upregulated by IFNI³ on monocytes. The biological activities of IL-31 are mostly unknown. It may play a role in inflammation of the skin. In transgenic mice, IL-31 is shown to be linked to the pruritis (itching) associated with nonatopic dermatitis.
