3Helix has developed a series of proprietary collagen hybridizing peptides that directly target the damaged collagen molecule. Collagen is a critical component of almost all organs and tissues, providing the framework for cell attachment and growth. The most abundant protein in the human body is determined by a triple-helix protein structure, which established the company’s name: 3Helix. Excessive collagen degradation is a key feature in a variety of diseases, such as cancer and fibrosis. The Collagen Hybridizing Peptide (CHP), invented by 3Helix, specifically binds to unfolded collagen molecules and is the first probe of its kind to to enable direct detection of unfolded collagen molecules in virtually any tissue that has been subject to mechanical damage or enzymatic remodeling. Furthermore, collagen is one of the most commonly used natural frameworks for regenerative medicine. CHP enables assessment of the structural integrity of collagen matrices from the molecular level, and facilitates optimization of the decellularization protocols. In addition, CHP can be used in several biochemical assays such as the in-gel Western blot to identify and quantify the collagen content in a biological sample.
