Bio Background	Down syndrome, which is the most common birth defect, is caused by trisomy 21. Studies of patients with partial trisomy 21 have defined a 1.6-Mb region between the DNA marker LA68 and ERG in 21q22.2 as the Down syndrome critical region (DSCR). DSCR8 is expressed in numerous tissues, but is not found in breast, heart, small intestine and liver.
