Background	ATF1 is a cyclic-AMPdependent transcription factor. ATF1 is expressed in a wide variety of celltypes and is capable of dimerizing with CREB. MSK1 and MSK2 protein kinasesare required for the stress-induced phosphorylation of transcription factorsCREB and ATF1 in primary embryonic fibroblasts. Epidermal growth factorinduction of c-jun expression requires ATF1 and MEF2 sites in the c-junpromoter.
